Hi Hugh,
you could take another approach. It's what I did to go from 7.2 -> 7.3 -> 8.0 I used the Advanced Package Tool (APT), more about it at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm
If you running 7.3 and want to goto 8.0, just specify the 8.0 apt repository in the sources.list file as explained at the before mentioned site.
Perhaps it ain't needed anymore, you could than use APT to keep your 8.0 system up to date.
THanks a lot for your answer. Since "apt" is a new tool, I guess that the apt approach is not what you originally had in mind in updating your SuSE-7.2. Did you have the exactly the same trouble as the one I am having, in the first place? What is the reason for SuSE having made the usual update impossible? Thank you. Regards, Hugh
