Interesting. This I couldn't find in my search of the list archives,
Hm... Well I didn't look in the archive, but I keep a fairly complete set of all traffic on this list, so I just found it here instead: ----------------------------------- On Thu, May 23, 2002 at 10:51:39AM +0300, suse_ground_zero wrote:
What can I do to get back xconsole in KDE 3.0 startup ???
1: open a terminal 2: type xconsole & 3: log out, make sure 'save session' is set 4: log in again Now you should have an 'xconsole<2>' stating "Couldn't open console" 5: Close this xconsole<2> 6: Log out, again 'save session' 7: Log in, you should have the xconsole back 8: Next time you log out *don't* save session, or you might need to go through this procedure again... Does anyone know of a *permanent* fix for this? - or where the problem originates? ------------------------------------ -now, this is kde3/8.0, but AFAIR it's pretty much the same MO, as with kde2.x/7.3
but I did find a couple of other things. First off, does this line in /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup look the way it should?:
exec setsid $xconsole -notify -nostdin -verbose -exitOnFail
Identical to the one I got on the 7.3-side... I guess so... <snip> I never found out why xconsole keeps dissappearing, and haven't had the time to put in the effort of researching it myself. My conclusion is that either it's been fixed/announced, and I missed that - or it only happens to a select few 'unfortunates', and none of the victims figured it out yet... :( cheers, Jon
