Damon,
as far as I know, there is no open source or freeware product available. If you want to invest some money, JabCast (http://www.jabcast.com) is probably the best product, according to a test. I've not tested it myself but heard some good things about it. My last information is, that it costs about $5000 for a server license with up to 100 users.

intranet. It would be nice if the messenger program is serverless like
NT Messenger or Hermes Messenger for Windows but a server type
messenger like AIM is ok if I can have my own server too that is
also inside the intranet also. It would be really nice if it worked on
both Linux and Windows.
Does anyone know of such a sytem? If I could use AIM, that
would be ideal since both clients exist.
