1. Where does Yasts maintain its package descriptions as /var/adm/current_package* does not appear to affect the overal file descriptions that Yast sources upon launching.
This file collection is used by yast only to identify the original source materials not the package descriptions. Those are located elsewhere. The file is located in /var/adm/current_package-descr/suse/descr/en.pkd The file is taged: PKdVersion: 1.1 Encoding: ISO-8859-1 and dated (27.03.2002 22:44) This is the english version of the DE iso set that Yast2 sources upon loading. This file is not in sync with the current ftp.suse.com file tree. ***SuSE staffers may wish to confirm it themselves. I just did the exercise befor posting and determine its effects if any with DE iso retail customers.
2. Where do I get the correct package descriptions so the Yast2 is in sync with the suse ftp server.
more homework .......... What is interesting is that this file was not updated when all rpms from YAST1/YAST2 were installed with a rpm -iUvh. Then again this file may have been over written after the update when I used the DE ISO Disc 1 to install an application via Yast2......more homework is needed as Im just starting to learn the internal of Yast.....befor I divorce this b&*^%...:) Chris H.
