Re: [SLE] pcmcia wireless setup

Thanks to all who replied to my query, including Henry Harpending who
replied off-list due to list problems. I now have the wireless network
working. I applied the update suggested by Henne, but it did not have
any immediate effect. After some additional browsing through the file
system, I found wlancfg in /usr/sbin. Running this indicated that
"dot11DesiredSSID=linux-wlan". I had changed the ssid setting in
/etc/sysconfig/network for essid to 'WIRELESS_ESSID="lynksys"', linksys
being the default essid for the network. I was unclear why the system
was looking for something else, but since the laptop is the only
wireless device I'm using at the moment, I just changed the setting in
the router and it worked. On further checking and rereading Henry's and
Keith's suggestions, I discovered that the linux-wlan setting is from
/etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts. Anyway, I'm happy it's working, but still
rather annoyed at the poor documentation SuSE provides for wireless lan,
and pcmcia in general. The setup in fact is very simple if you know
what to do, but SuSE makes no effort to explain what is needed. I still
have to run dhcpcd manually, but I don't turn the computer off very
often, so that's not a big problem. Again, thanks for the advice.

list, but I haven't figured out how to do that easily in evolution.)
