Take a look in /etc/lilo.conf. There should be a line that says
something like:
vga = 771
This is the line that enables the VESA graphics. What does yours say? If
it says "vga = normal" then that will disable it. Also look for a line
that says something like:
append="splash=0"
There could be other things on that line, but the "splash=0" part will
disable the graphics.
If you've got the SuSE Reference manual for SuSE 8.0, this is all
explained on page 40.
