I have been unable to enable DMA on my DVD drive which is attached to the
primary ide as with nothing else. I have tried enabling it using the DMA
module in the hardware section of Yast 2 and I have tried adding hda to the
"FORCE_DMA_ON" section in the sysconfig editor and neither method has worked.
I get the error message "dev/dev: Input/output error. mount: I could not
determine the filesystem type, and none was specified. I AM able to enable
DMA on my cdr which is attached to the secondary IDE as the master with an
Iomega zip as the slave and can mount it successfully.

I previously have had Mandrake 8.2 and Gentoo installed and DMA was enabled by
default and worked for this drive. In gentoo all I had to do was make sure
that support for my via chipset was compiled into the kernal and DMA was
utilized automatically. I don't undersand why I can't get dma to work in
Suse.

Please help so I don't have to go back to Mandrake. I would go back to Gentoo
but it is too much work.

thanks
