Well, I recompiled my kernel (stock SuSE kernal 2.4.18 from kernel-source rpm) for various reason I won't borther to detail here.
Everything is fine except sound.
When alsa tries to start I get the following error:
jw:~ # rcalsasound start
Starting sound driver: cs4236modprobe: Can't locate module snd-cs4236
Ok, so digging around shows that the following are no longer existant: failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236-lib.o
/lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.o
According to RPM, they are owned by k_deflt-2.4.18-58
Which to me would indicate that I had left some step out of the re-compiling process.
Based on other things I saw I the list I let the following run while I went to lunch:
make cloneconfig
make dep
make clean && make bzImage && make dep clean bzImage && make modules && make bzlilo && make modules_install
Ran lilo, rebooted, everythign as expected except the sound drivers.
Now, actually, the entire sound directory is missing:
jw@jw:~> ls /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/
abi arch drivers fs net
So what did I skip? What do I have to do to build && install the sound modules?
Thanks.
