If you use YaST2 to set up the printer, you can select Network Jet Direct as the printer type, at least with CUPS (not sure about LPD). Then, just give it the IP address of the JetDirect. CUPS will send the print job directly to port 9100 of the JetDirect.
Yes that worked for a direct printer at work, enough so I can configure it at home ... do you have any idea how I can configure it to print to a specific port on a JedDirect box (e.g. does the port numbver change for parallel port 2)?
