I've found using a mixture of different versions of wine very good.

Codeweavers Crossover plugin is great for getting things such as Quicktime and more working.

Codeweavers Crossover Office is v.good for MSOffice and more
  Have also managed to get the following working with it
    UltraEdit 8.20a
    XMLSpy 4.3
 Just purchased it so am still experimenting with different products.

Codeweavers Wine for general other stuff

And finally,
TransGameings WineX for games

Of course true Linux Apps can bring their own strengths, but sometimes you need to tap into a larger application resource.....
