Audigy + Firewire Hard drive - SOLVED - but how to make it stick?

Thanks to the patient folks who walked me through getting my Maxtor
firewire hard drive up and running with 8.0 pro.
I need to do :
Insmod ieee1394
Insmod ohci1394
Insmod sbp2
At the command line, then mount /sdb1 (which I've set up in /etc/fstab).
My question, and pardon my newbiness, but how can I get this to "stick"
which each reboot?
I tried modifying boot.local but I get a hard freeze with these commands
in there (have to do a complete reset). Am I doing this too early or
too late, should I be putting this somewhere else?
And how exactly does insmod differ from modprobe?
Thanks
Sean
