I am sort of new to SuSE, started playing with 7.3, and now started playing with 8.0. my main Linux of choice is Debian.
well i sort of resolved it. i installed debian and am running woody on that machine now..i have another system that i can try suse 8 on.
ohwell ..........stupid kernel 2.4.x!#$@!
I've had exactly this same problem and actually SuSE 8 prompted me for a solution. (and it's not stupid kernel, it's stupid L440GX+ ;-) On the first installer screen there is an option "apic". You need to use it to properly initialize APIC controller on L440GX+ motherboard. My initial problem was with RedHat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.9). Installation just hung at the point of loading aic7xxx module, sometimes hard, sometimes allowing to switch between virtual terminals and showing a bunch of never ending timouts on scsi bus. I tried to install SuSE 8 on that same machine (actually, it is VALinux 2240). I used "apic" option. Without "apic" it froze the same way. I then tried RH installation again passing "apic" paramenter to the kernel, and it worked like a charm. Regards, -Kastus
