I have posted this on the Abiword list, but it has been suggested that I post it here as well.
Makes sense :)
I have downloaded and installed AbiWord 1.0.1 from the Sourceforge mirrors. Application /usr/share/AbiSuite/bin/AbiWord process 1055 (the number varies) has crashed due to a fatal error. Segmentation fault.
Is this in a gnome-segv window, or have you run it from the command line, and this is dumped to stdout?
If the former, could you do the latter, and post the output?
I have regularly updated AbiWord and have not had this problem before. As no one else has mentioned it, I am assuming that it is not a bug but a problem with my installation. What is puzzling is that it runs when in Root. Starting it from a terminal does not give any messages of libraries missing.
Am I to assume that it *does* complain about libraries when you run it as a regular user?
It does sound like a prob with your system rather than the builds, especially as you had the same issue with various packages...

Hello James. Thanks for your prompt reply. I think this is the information you need! When starting AbiWord from the menu in either Gnome or KDE3 as Root, it runs correctly. Starting from the console command line in Root, it runs correctly. There are no messages in the console window. Starting from the menu in either Gnome or KDE3 as User, gives the error box and message, and there is the splash screen which remains until I cancel the error message. Starting from the console command line in Gnome or KDE3 as User, gives the same error message and splash screen. There are no messages at all in the console window. There is just this error box which I have described. The stdout file does not mention AbiWord, but I am sending it in case it helps. I have heard of one other person who has had this problem, but has been unable to cure it. Thank you for you help. If there is anything else you would like me to try, let me know.
