The problem I had was with XFree86-4.2.0-SuSE with KDE2.2.2. I know exactly what happened now. When I used Kmail and hightlighted the texts in the mail, if it coincided with Kmail downloading mails from the server. This will lock X. I don't know the reason. Maybe it just happened to me every time. I gave up with KDE2.2.2. I just upgraded to KDE3 from kde.org, SuSE build. It was less problem comparing with the one from ftp.suse.com. I think there is something wrong with the arts of KDE3 SuSE packages. It causes no sound for all KDE applications. Yesterday, when I activated antialias in KDE3. It's gone bad. Couldn't start KDE at all. It was the problem with DCOP. I searched in the internet for all day but couldn't find any right answers for me. Deleting all the temporary files about DCOP, MCOP, socket-host didn't work either. Delete all KDE and QT directories and reinstalled but no good. Then I have seen one webpage explaining how to write DCOP interface which actually KDE uses to display stuff (my guess). So I thought it must be XFree or my nvidia driver. I downgraded XFree to 4.1.0, it could start but X crashed when logout. Then downgrade again using SuSE7.3 cd version. Then it has no problem until now. Let's see what happens! So I ended up with XFree from SuSE cd, Nvidia-1.0-2802 (the latest one is not stable for my Gforce 2MX) and KDE3. Don't dare to try antialias yet but using the truetype fonts copy from c:/windows/fonts. I'm not good with linux yet. So when something wrong the best way for me is to remove, delete, install, reinstall on and on until the problem solved. And also install XFree 4.2.0 from the SuSE website if you have not done it. Xfree 4.1.0 has a memory bug.

Hi,
1) Do not use X as root. 2) Turn off fast fast AGP writes in BIOS. 3) Use nvidia agp option in xfree config.
with best regards

Hello all,
I have a problem with X. It locks up when I'm using Kmail (I don't know if it happens the same with other applications). When I read my mail messages I always highlight what I'm reading with a mouse click. Then X locks up after a few highlight clicks. I can't do anything anymore except moving the mouse. Keyboard doesn't respond either.
I can login with ssh from a different computer. Using top, I see only X is running with 99% CPU. If I kill X, it hangs. So I have to halt it instead but the screen still locked. Then I press reset.
Could anyone tell me (a bit of details) how to solve this? I know very little about Linux.
My system: SuSE 7.3, SuSE kernel 2.4.16-4GB-SMP (2 CPU), KDE2.2.2 G force 2 with latest Nvidia kernel and GLX
Thank you
