Well, I'm a newb to Linux of just over 2 years. I started with Corel Linux then used Mandrake 7.2. I have to say the Corel, for all the user-friendliness it was said to be, was not very good. Mandrake is what I cut my teeth on. But I had a mobo that had a hpt366 and I couldn't get it to work in Man. So I contacted Andre Hedrik (the Kernel team's IDE guy) and asked him about this and also which distro he favored. Of course he said give SuSE a try - I did. I have never regreted the move. One of the biggest assest to new users is this mail list. It is unlike any other users mail list I have used - and that includes all users lists, be it for a game, a program, or an OS. The people here, for the most part, are always helpful and informative. There are regulars that have a wealth of knowledge and there are also SuSE staff that monitor the list and at times will jump in to clarify or help. Though this is not a "support" list officially. I'm sure that you'll find, as I have, that this is one of the best Linux resources around. Welcome aboard, Curtis On Monday 20 May 2002 22:09, Patrick wrote:

Folks,
For the past week, I have been playing around with SuSE 8.0, which I installed dual-boot with my Mandrake 8.2. I have to say, I am mightily impressed.

I will have to get used to some of the little things that are always different between competing distributions, and I would like to see the YaST program improved as has been mentioned on this list many times. Overall, though, I think SuSE has a real winner on its hands and you may have another convert.
Best regards, Charles
