Hello all. Somehow during my install of 8 Pro, I managed to create icons on my KDE desktop for Floppy, Floppy2, CDROM, CDRecorder. I only have one floppy, and the one that actually works is Floppy2
So delete the Floppy icon and rename Floppy2
(I also have 1 Zip drive, but it correctly placed only that icon on the desktop), also if I place a CD in my drive (its a TDK burner), I cannot mount it via the CD icon, only the CDRecorder icon works ... kinda, for instance: when trying to install Borland JBuilder6, install failed (sorry, I forget the messages I get *g*),
as root do rm /dev/cdrom ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom Of course, if your cdrecorder isn't sr0 change the above to the correct device, but if you don't have other scsi cd devices it should be sr0.
however I was able to copy the CD contents to a temp directory in $HOME, install went just fine... also, 3D Diag shows that I need to install xf86_glx, but when I look in SuSE Control Center it says 3D IS enabled, when I try to run gears, it starts and then just disappears from the screen (what logfile and where should I look?)
How do you run gears? You should run it from a console window (e.g. konsole or xterm). Then you'll get the error messages in that window. Incidentally, you should run YaST Online Update. The missing xf86_glx packages are there now. regards Anders -- I swear I do declare - how did you get that there?
