I would like to get a USB scanner that works under SuSE 7.3. I have noted what is supported, but this is never the same thing as personal experience. I would prefer to find something that is relatively easy to configure under SuSE and where both text and picture scans work well. Recomendations please. BTW, what program do you use to scan text documents into SuSE?

Brian, I think you will find that the Epson scanners are best supported under Linux. There was one model, the Perfection 1250U that was a mistake, but the other models work good. I have the Perfection Photo 1650U and it was a cinch to setup and there is even a program provided from Epson from their site for Linux! I know several folks here have HP scanners too. The Canon models seem to be troublesome. The Acers are inexpensive and usually use the same backends as the Agfa types, so you should be safe there. I think Kooka and Sane both provide you with text scanning and from my limited use of it, I think it works pretty good.
