Thanks for your quick response, Jon. I did use mt -f /dev/nst0 oem for full backup. However, the system replaces the old files with the new ones. Any fix, please help.
mt -f /dev/nst0 oem tar -cvf /dev/nst0 /Disk05 tar -cvf /dev/nst0 /Disk04
to verify the tape archieve's contents tar -dvf /dev/nst0 or tar -tvf /dev/nst0 . The output is the files on this Disk04 only.
Bugger...
What's the "oem" for ?
Is suppose it's a typo. Should have been eom: End Of Media. By the way: I always use "mt -f /dev/nst0 eod" for appending to a tape. From the manual (man mt), both option commands seems nearly identical: eom Space to the end of the recorded media on the tape (for appending files onto tapes). eod, seod Space to end of valid data. Used on streamer tape drives to append data to the logical and of tape. Paul.
