do any of you know if the hp laser jet 1200n is supported by suse linux 7.3? cheers
I can only speak for the 1200, but this might be of relevance.
IIRC, the PCL5e driver offers a resolution no better than 600dpi.
Configured as a postscript Level 2 device, there _is_ a 1200dpi option.
However, comparing actual printed output from Linux and Windows 98 (with
HP's postscript driver installed), it's clear, at least as far as documents
featuring truetype fonts are concerned, that the print resolution in 7.3
doesn't exceed 600dpi.
I was able to confirm this by printing the same document in Windows (this
time with HP's PCL6 driver) with the print resolution set to 600dpi: the
output's almost identical to that in 7.3.
I doubt whether this has anything to do with the 1200's "Resolution
Enhancement" feature, which, as far as I know, is inaccessible within 7.3
using the drivers provided. HP's engineers state that it should have no
effect on the quality of printed text, and for the purposes of making the
comparison with Windows I had the feature switched off.
