Hi All,
I am trying to configure this Umax Astra 1220U usb scanner for SuSE Personal Edition 8.0 with yast2.
It recognizes the scanner, and the scanner is supported under the version of Sane that comes with 8.0 (1.0.7-59)
It gives me the option to select which driver to use, so I select Generic because I see no listing for Umax.
Under Generic there are two selection options for my scanner:
- Umax
- Umax-pp
However there is a warning on the sidebar that says only to choose if you are sure since choosing the wrong one could damage the hardware.
I have gone to the Sane site, and although it does say that this particular scanner is supported, it does not say which of these two drivers I should use, or at least I can't find it if it does.
Anyone got any ideas?
Almost forgot to mention, I am a Linux rookie, so go slow for me.
Most UMAX scanners use internal USB to parallel converters that Linux doesn't like. You might try Hamrick software's Linux Vuescan package. It's at http://www.hamrick.com The website lists the 3400 and 5400 as the only Umax scanners supported, but the Evaluation version is free and will allow you to use many scanners that aren't supported by SANE. The full version is $40 and well worth it if it works for you. I'm just a very satisfied customer. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
