3D acceleration is not working with my installation of SuSE 8.0. All the same hardware worked fine with SuSE 7.3. The problem shows up as the following messages in /var/log/XFree86.0.log: XFree86 Version 4.2.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) Release Date: 23 January 2002 ... skipping a bunch of stuff ... (II) LoadModule: "glx" (II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (EE) LoadModule: Module glx does not have a glxModuleData data object. (II) UnloadModule: "glx" (II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so (EE) Failed to load module "glx" (invalid module, 0) 3Ddiag reports the following: Tests for package "xf86_glx": package ... failed! ================================================================ Package "xf86_glx" must be installed with YaST(2)! ================================================================ Tests for correct OpenGL libraries/GLX extensions: /etc/sysconfig/3ddiag (SCRIPT_3D=switch2xf86_glx) ... done. But, xf86_glx is not on the SuSE 8.0 CDs (or at least YaST2 can't find it). There is a package xf86glx-devel, but installing that made no difference. There is also no script switch2xf86_glx on my system nor is it found by YaST2 when searching the CDs. Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "type1" Load "speedo" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "dri" EndSection Another indication that something is messed up: rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/glx.so reports that glx.so belongs to package xmods_3X which is a Version 3.x package and I am using 4.2.0! -- Robert C.
