Ok, this sucks!

Repeat post:

Im here rummaging around the /supplementary/kde dirs and it has become
"painfully" apparent that the exclusion of YaST1 is problematic at best.
Just trying to figure out which packages are need to be updated is a pain in
the ars. I have to type "rpm -qv <package name> " into the console and then
compare the output to the listings in the directory in order to figure out if
this package is A) installed in the 1st place and B) if so, what version I
have compared to the ones in the ftp site.

I "STRONGLY" recommend that this issue be addressed. Having YOU as the only
means of check for updates is woefully inadequate IMHO. Or is it perhaps
that YaST1 was discontinued for the reason of discouraging most from
accessing the directory in large numbers of users - I would think not, I
strongly doubt that SuSE's desire is to make access to these packages
difficult. However, I find this is the case, insofar the updating packages
is become extremely labourious and time consuming.

The only other rationale is to install and configure "apt-get". Unfortunately
this will also be time comsuming, and I fear labourious as well. I foresee
many posts to the list in the meanwhile, both from those experiencing similar
frustrations, and from myself while bringing the program "apt-get" upto a
functional status.

For those from SuSE that monitor the list post. Please inform the Product
development department of these concerns. The feature I mentioned in YaST1
is sorely missed.

Respectfully, Curtis
