This is not enough. What were the contents of /etc/route.conf
Arrggh. I did a tarball of the etc directory and for some bizarre reason route.conf isn't in it!! I'll have to uninstall the hard drive with 8 and reinstall the one with 7.2, look up the file and then get back. But thanks so much for the questions.I'll come back asap with the answers!
You seem to have been using two cards. Can you re-post and describe specifically what were your previous settings:
How many ethernet cards How was each one configured The IP number The netmask or subnet (e.g. 255.255.0.0) The default gateway The DNS IP numbers.
you should use 255.255.0.0, since you are using 192.168.0.* and 192.168.10.*
Excellent!
Host name: Linux (my notebook name) ALSO I checked change name via dhcp ) Name server list: 192.168.10.1 Domain - nickselby.de (this worked under Suse 7.2
If you were using dhcpclient before, why don't you select the same thing again? On Yast2 use the option "Automatic address setup (via DHCP)"
Okay
I have set up a friend's PC that way (she uses a cable ISP) and had no need to enter routing or DNS settings.
I hope that' the case here. Thanks for the help and the time! NIck
