Floppy icon

I've been testing SuSE 8.0 - not bad, but a few rough edges. In the test
machine the floppy drive turned out to be faulty, so it didn't put a floppy
icon on the desktop. When I added one (right-click on desktop, Create New ->
Floppy device) using the same parameters as on my 7.3 install (device
/dev/fd0), it doesn't seem to work. Clicking on the icon opens a browser
trying to go to RealNames. Mounting via the console give the message that
/dev/fd0 is not a valid block device. The floppy, however, does work OK in
Windows on the same machine. The user is a member of the disk group. Any
suggestions on what (probably obvious) thing I have missed?
