My impressions on 8 so far: The installation program wanted to write over my two FAT32 partitions, otherwise went well. Support could not answer my simple question as to if my particular modem is supported. From what I've read some winmodems are and some arn't, but dont ask support. They have no clue. 1. A phone call pong match proved silly when I was finally asked to submit my question via email. This fellow told me that support is farmed out to a third party. 2. My first email attempt the tech sent me links to independant sites on the subject. When I asked him to snswer the specific question or pass the email along to his supervisor I got no response. 3. In an effort to avoid that tech I then tried to open new calls to emails to both US and De support. I have yet to receive a reply. A simple "no" would have been a fine answer. I was not even told winmodems weren't supported in general! The fine print of the support policy states only serial external modems are supported. Read this, the scope is unbeleivably small. My memories of RH support a few years ago were much better. If I had known support would have been so limited and clueless I would have bought the Upgrade version and not been so generous with my monies. As to the software, WOW! My Linux, FreeBSD and even Windows buddies are as impressed as I am. KDE 3 is sweet and no one can beleive the beauty of the bootstrap loader. The large number of complaints about particular problems in 8.0 on listserv make me wonder whether there is doubt about the reliability of technical support at S.u.S.E.
Is there such doubt?
