not to suggest anything negative, but the alternatives are less than desirable. I mean, you can go Linux, Mac, or.....? well, see what I mean. $200+ U.S. for a piece of sh*t that gathers all you personal info, invites every cracker in the neighborhood to sonder on in, is bug ridden and trips over itself doing such things as.... well, like, anything remotely multitasking. I happen to believe (as I'm sure that 99.99% do) that SuSE puts out the best OS for the buck. Pretty much anything that will be in 8.1 will already be updated in 8.0. It's just that the new updated stuff will be default in 8.1 and you'll have to put in the newer stuff via YOU or manually. I will buy the next edition for no other reason than I can afford $80 bucks to upgrade. Have you considered the cost of an XP upgrade and then having to wait until next year to get the beloved SP-1 for XP --- no thanks. I have W98 and that's the extent of an M$ headache I will allow the raiders for Redmond to impose upon me. Frankly, If I didn't need to use Team Sound in M$, I would be running only a Linux box (0k, well not quite yet), this will be eXPecially true in the next 2 or 3 releases of Wine/WineX - then the windows native games will run in Linux under Wine/WineX and M$ partition turn into ext3 or Reiserfs partitions and Redmond can forever kiss my A$$. If your waiting to 8.1 I would suggest buying 8.0 and putting $10/month in a cookie jar, by the time you get up to the price of SuSE Pro/next version - you'll have the money to upgrade and it will be in the stores or at the SuSE Shop online. The manuals have some German text in them throughout: rush job no doubt: Hey SuSe: if you need a proof-reader I can do your manuals in about 2 hours. $50 cheap.
I don't think it's a rush job. They just need more "native-english" speakers to proof-read and translate. The Germans tend to now mix lots of (bad) english into their common language; so vice versa may not be so easy to detect.
IMNSHO, I don't think you can do the manuals in 2 hours. Not proof reading by any means. If translated and proof-read manuals in the past; it's time consuming and something will always slip through. Budget for translation is 10 minutes to one hour per page depending on technical complexity. Proof-reading is about 10 times faster until you encounter an error; at which point you fall back to translation.
Pobody's nerfect. There's always the next version to fix what slipped through this time.
