That was the thought I had, but was told by the place that built it that wasn't the case. But I am not sure they quite undertand the heat buildup theory. (Not really a theory it is a fact that the heat will first go up, just like if you turn off your car, wait just a minute then turn it back on, if you have a decent temperature gauge it will be higher than it was when you just turned the car off due to heat not being dissipated properly when everything stops moving/flowing) The only problem I have with that is how do I determine WHICH is the offending piece? I may just put bigger heat sinks and fans on both CPU's and see what that does. Pretty cheap try for a fix (around $50 for 2 decent CPU cooling units) Greg Hicks -----Original Message----- From: Jim Hatridge [mailto:James.Hatridge@epost.de] Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2002 8:12 AM To: ghicks@ramko.com Subject: Re: [SLE] New Athlon Crashes -- Temperature? I too have experienced a possibly Athlon related problem. We are running a dual 1.2Ghz Athlon processor system with Promise RAID controller. The system runs for weeks without a problem, reboots are fine, unless you actually shut down the system (power off, not just a warm boot). If you shut it off and let it sit for more than a minute or so it won't start back up. It then has to sit for 15-20 minutes before you can start it again. It has me completely baffled, the system goes all the way throw POST up to
Just an idea off the top of my head. When you turn your system totally off does all the fans stop right away too? Think about that for a minute. The fans are keeping everything at the right temp. Then they are shut down, the temp will go up all over the machine at first. No problem for most cards, but it sounds like you have one card that is heat sensitize. After the 15-20 minutes the whole system has cooled back down and will work ok. The answer would be to fix a couple of fans so that they do not turn off when you shut down the system.
