Yesterday, I received and successfully installed (thanks to all you wonderful people) a usb smartmedia card reader/writer. It is detected in the log as being write-protected. Is it possible to configure one's computer so that it is possible to write as well as read from the card?

Hi Eddie,
you probably need to mount it with the rw option instead of read-only. (could be the default)

sda is being detected as "write-protect on". This is before it is mounted. I mount sda1 as rw but it has no affect. Below is an extract from the /var/log/messages file.
