I suggest you boot the CD, then go through the install selecting nothing, then boot the installed system, then run LILO (from YaST is probably the best or directly). Then see if you can reboot. On 8 Apr 2002 at 11:58, bob torres wrote:
Hi,
I can't seem to get my machine to boot from the internal IDE drive. It gets to a screen listing all of the parts of the machine, says that it found SDRAM 1,2 and then gets as far as "LI" and freezes. I can boot the SuSE CD #1 (7.3) but I'm not sure what to do to rescue the system. I'm guessing that the boot record is screwed up somehow. I don't have the exact partition numbers and such, since I can't remember the command to list them (I've mostly used PPC linux, where pdisk does the trick).
Some background that might or might not be related: Last night, I installed the update from the apt-get repository - it was ~500M worth of stuff. I think that this probably gave me a new version of LILO. Might this be related? FWIW, the machine booted and rebooted just fine last night. I shut the thing down (yes, I shut it down, otherwise the thing is too noisy all night), and went to turn it on this AM and ended up with this problem.
Any help getting this thing back on the road would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
