All,
I've gone through an installation of SuSe Enterprise Server 7 (SLES7) and configured machine with a static IP address.
Through yast2 --> Network/Advanced --> Expert Network Configuration I set IP address subnet mask --> Hostname and nameserver hostname domain name name server list domain search list --> Routing default gateway
$ ifconfig eth0 displays eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:A4:E1:0C:9F inet addr:138.2.52.53 Bcast: 138.2.52.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::210:a4fff:fee1:c9f/10 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICASE MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2829 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:98 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 RX bytes:372726 (363.9 Kb) TX bytes:10621 (10.3 Kb) Interrupt:11 Base address:0x200
I know the network card works. I got all the network info from my network admin. The SuSe install is nothing fancy as I've made no changes.
Is there something specific I should be looking for when trying to get
$netstat -nr Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 138.2.52 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 40 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 138.2.52.1 0.0.0.0 UG 40 0 0 eth0 I am unable to ping machines on the same subnet or others. Basically, it seems that my network is inaccessible and I'm trying to figure out why. I'm not sure what I need to check to make sure I'm configured properly. working? I have successfully set up DHCP on this same machine.
Thanks,

What in particular is not working on your machine ? Routing ? Then show the output of "netstat -nr" Can you ping other hosts on the same subnet ? But on other subnets ? -tosi -- Veni, vidi, vici Mostly every great man in history I came, I saw, I got lost. About every other tourist.
