I've tried cat'ting the file strait to /dev/lp0, but nothing happened. I'd sure like to know why this one is so difficult, for I don't see why lpr should be doing this conversion in the first place, especially on a .txt file.
Printing to printer lp -Plp is 1) completely unnecessary, since lp is the default, and 2) a synonym for "auto" which if you look at apsfilter's sources will try to parse your code and create postscript out of it and send it through ghostscript to print. What you should do is print it through either printer raw (-Plp-raw) or printer ascii (-Plp-ascii). With lp-raw there is no conversion, and with lp-ascii it is assumed to be ascii text. regards Anders
