Yes, I have WiinXP. My setup on hard disk (38GB total size): 1 x FAT32 for win95 boot (1.5gb) 1 x NTFS for WinXP Pro (30gb) 1 x 7Gb or so remaining unpartitioned at back of hard disk where I want to install Linux. Thanks to all the people that have responded. Art, I might go with your suggsestions using Bootmagic. At least I have backed up my Hard disk on a 2nd hard disk already. I have spent many a weekend reinstalling Win XP ! My only worry is that when I now install Linux on the machine, I'd prefer to boot ecerything from hard disk, includining Linux boot loader. -Grové -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Joshua Lee [mailto:yid@SoftHome.net] Verzonden: zondag 24 februari 2002 9:59 Aan: art_fore@3mts.com; suse-linux-e@suse.com Onderwerp: Re: [SLE] Linux partitioning On Saturday 23 February 2002 01:18 am, Art Fore wrote:
My understanding from what I have read that MBR is not recommended for Win2K or NT, which Grove must have since it is NTFS. I also was not willing to take the chance with the MBR location of the Linux boot loader for Win2K.
Maybe he has Windows XP, which is what I have here installed in an NTFS partition. (Windows XP Home Ed.) LILO works fine in the MBR for me, and Partition Magic 7 shrunk my NTFS partition without a problem. I needed to add the line "lba32" to my /etc/lilo.conf though because of Linux being installed in the last partition of a large hard drive. -- It's not that I'm afraid to die.
