Whenever I try to download a ".pdf" file NETSCAPE gets frozen so that I cannot even close its window by clicking on the upper right corner. It looks like it is not responding to the Window Manager commands any more. To close the NETSCAPE windows I have to look for its process ID (#ps -ef | grep monville) and then kill it (#kill <process ID>).
Method 1: go to Edit > Preferences > Navigator > Applications, look for Portable Document Format and select it, click Edit, and under "Handled by" check "Save to disk". Instead of trying to open the pdf file, Netscape will save it from now on. Or, to view the pdf file directly with Acrobat Reader instead of saving it, under "Handled by" check "Application" and enter acroread Method 2: In Navigator, click the link to the pdf file with the right mouse button, and choose "Copy Link Location" from the submenu. Then use wget to download the pdf file. Command: wget <pasted link location>
I noticed a message pops up which reads "Acrobat plug-in. Could not launch Acrobat". I wonder what it means given that the Acrobat Reader running on SuSE is part of the installation kit ...
Handled by --> Application, as described in Method 1, was not properly set, I guess. SH
