Hi,
I just upgraded to kernel 2.4.16 on SUSE 7.2 and now i now i have a problem shutting the system down.
Problem: When shutting donw (reboot, halt or ctrl-alt-del) the scripts stop at 'unmounting file systems'.
This kernel (in contrast to 2.4.4) makes a mount /proc/bus/usb which may be the cause. because when i plug off my usb modem before shutting down everything is fine.
Any better suggestions?

This is just a wild guess, but you may need to run mk_initrd then lilo. These set the boot process to load certain modules into a temporary memory location so they can be used to get to the rest of the kernel. (Or something like that.) This doesn't sound like the cause of your problem, but it is a commone source of boot problems when upgrading the kernel. If you haven't done it, you probably should. HTH, steven
