Greetings one_inch!
They move on to other distros. And SuSE looses a potential customer
Hello ;o)
You mean to tell me that you want to sit there and watch SuSE lose potential coustomers everyday?? Someone on this list made a very good suggestion: Have ISO's but keep them a version or two behind the current.
It twas me that suggested that. Hell even 7.0 for god sake. Like at least let em know were a really solid company and that we kick ass over all the rest.
My fight here, is not totaly 100% personal, if it was 100% personal then I woulda shut up along time ago. I talk to lots of people on irc in and out of linux channels that would love to try SuSE, but dont for the simple fact that SuSE doesnt have ISO's. and they dont know how to do a package by package download and they dont know how to install from an ftp. These are the people I fight for.
I see a lotta folks on IRC also and mostly I believe the ones that want to download say 7.3 wouldn't have bought anything anyway. But then most folks don't have broadband to download that much disk. I don't, and again I would end up buying the box. But if there was say 3-4 disks it sure would be a nice way to review how great suse is. On the one hand I don't see an easy answer to this question, on the other hand there's no reason for good folks to fight each other over the answer, I am going to be redundant and say I believe it's really up to the CEO /CTO to make the decision and then carry the can. I just hope the decision is the correct one and that suse doesn't end up carrying the can. Ask yourself this. Why can redhat release an ISO? Why can Mandrake? I believe the answer to these questions could help.
And as for the decision to remove the ISO's from the ftp was infact for development costs But I see this hurting them more in the long run then what its gonna help them.
I dunno it may, then again it may not. Suse already has become word of mouth in many circles. A big thank you to suse for a fine OS! -- Leave the Constitution Alone. http://members.osb.net/phil
