Perl CGI for commercial web sites?

Hello SuSE folkz,
Some one asked me a question about using Perl CGI for moderate and
heavily loaded commercial web sites.
Could somebody enlighten me if Perl CGI can handle a tough load.
I think that production CGI environment should be written entirely
in C/C++ but I can be mistaken.
Are there any commercial web sites which use Perl CGI for their web
applications?
