Hello I am considering the purchase of a new box with a network card and DVD reader.Never had any of them before . And would not like too many troubles installing them. I guided myself from several posts on the list for the choice of the various elements of the system, but I still have a few questions.
1) The vendor proposes a 3Com - 3c905 CTX network card. Will it work with SuSE 7.3 ? I saw it was not in the Yast2 list, though there were several 3Com cards . 2) As for DVDs , can any standard reader work , as for CDs ?
Thanks in advance.
Paul, I think you will find the DVD/CDROM combo drive to be pretty easy to use and setup. You should not run into any serious problems no matter what the brand as it usually just appears as a good cdrom drive. I was getting ready to get the more expensive 3Com network card also with the present system I am building for a customer, but decided against paying extra for the name. I ended up getting the NetGear FA310TX 10/100 card that uses the well supported Tulip drivers. Both 7.2 Pro and 7.3 Pro like the card very much and it is probably half the price of the 3Com.
