I made a fresh install ,as i had no time to wait and try things, as I was trying to connect to remote m/c with ssh. i had too :-) Now everything works fine, learnt a great lesson, what to dod and what not to do. Spl. thanks for zenstar , for his continous response , actuallu i posted the mesg. and was waiting , sitting idle to see some responses, at those times , the responses made by him are real great, but I didnt had patience to wait !!!!! anbu .

There is no id for reiserfs, the id is Linux type 83, and Linux SWAP is 82.
You specify reiserfs when you do the mount
mount -t reiserfs /dev/hda3 /mnt
