Is anyone currently using the ATI Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder? What is your opinion?
Well I have an ATI Radeon 7500, but it doesn't wear the All-In-Wonder label. AFAIK, the Radeon 7500 isn't one of the All-In-Wonder series. (Disclaimer: ATI markets in weird ways--anything is possible.) As far as my 7500 goes, so far, so good. With XFree86 4.1.x it worked fine using the framebuffer device, except for the annoying but expected flicker. I minimized that by setting my aps' backgrounds to black wherever possible. Since I prefer a black desktop anyway, this really wasn't a problem. When XFree86 4.2 came out, I installed the SuSE RPMs, ran SAX2, which found the 7500 immediately, and I have been flicker free ever since. I have yet to try any serious games (I'm not much of a gamer), 3D, or dual monitors. So far I have no problems or complaints, and the card works as advertised. I run 1024 by 768, but I took a look at some higher resolutions, and they seem fine too. FWIW, I dual boot and did the W98 setup first. To get anything beyond VGA mode I had to download the latest drivers from ATI (they are already on version 4.x or something, and the card has only been out a few months), download the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard, and download the latest bios upgrade. In all fairness, the ATI instructions warn of this possibility, and it seems like this sort of thing is typical with some of the latest video cards. To sum it up, I'm happy with my purchase. -- Regards, Malcolm KMail l.3.1 -- KDE 2.2.1 -- SuSE Linux 7.3 Remove the dots to email me
