I have noticed that there are RPM packages for the SuSE kernels in the update directories at the FTP site.
There are packages for version 2.4.10 and 2.4.16 for several SuSE distributions, e.g. 7.3, 7.2, etc.
There is no formal announcement nor any description on what these updates are for. YOU does not show it as an available update.
Are they security updates? Is there a reason I should choose 2.4.10 over 2.4.16? etc.
If someone has seen some description of these packages or announcement, I would appreciated it.

Hi Raphael, First, SuSE policy is to only announce and greatly promote updates if they are security relevant. However, some things, such as the latest kernel and KDE, are always available at SuSE ftp sites. For the latest kernel, visit your local mirror, and search for a path which is similar to /pub/linux/suse/people/mantel/next/rpm, there you can find the latest kernel. Installing this one is incredibly easy. As root do: # cp /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old # cp /boot/initrd /boot/initrd.old This backs up your old stuff. Then do: rpm -Uvh k_deflt_new_version_you_just_downloaded.rpm It might be necessary to use some additional pressure here: rpm -Uvh --force k_deflt_[...].rpm Then: mk_initrd lilo Reboot and done. This is in sdb (http://sdb.suse.de) and I suppose also in Togan's FAQs which are found here: http://dinamizm.ath.cx or at one of these mirrors: http://toganm.tripod.com http://www.smaug42.com/susefaq http://www.bmtsolutions.com/suse_faq Cheers .....
