I have been following step by step what the INSTALL files say, but I think I am missing something a bit evident. Reading those file I have set up a basic configuration, but when I try to start and test it it fails. I want procmail to deliver email to the usual place, and as suggested by the documentation I have copied /var/qmail/boot/proc to /var/qmail/rc. /var/qmail/rc did not exist before, I had to create it by hand. I do not know if it can mean that something in installation failed. The problem comes out just when I try to start the program: executing the /var/qmail/rc/proc does not make happen anything, only my shell dies (ie: I had su-ed as root, I get back to the user I was before). I just do not see what can be the problem! I have also tried to run the command in the /var/qmail/rc/proc script by hand, but with no success. I am using Suse 7.1. Any kind of help is appreciated, those "use postfix, no sendmail, no no he is right using qmail" are not appreciated:-) Praise ps: I am not e professional, I am doing all this with one target: learning! So please be patient and explainationful! Right. But first of all, did you read "Life With qmail"? You can find it anywhere internet, written by Dave Sill. It's the best doc for installing qmail perfectly right step by step and in a very easy way. There you can read that you must install two other packages of software: daemontools (version 0.8x, I think) and ucspi-tcp, both at qmail mirrors sites. Without these two apps, qmail will not work. And don't forget not to run qmail into inetd: use daemontools and ucspi-tcp in its place. And what pop mail server are you going to install? Or is it only smtp?
