Here's a little piece of c-code that I shamelessly swiped from dosemu's
startup code. It determines my processor speed very accurately.
In the original, the final line read ((b*4096)/a) instead of (b/a). that gave
me a value that was 4096 times too high, so I removed it, but it may be that
it's necessary on 486 CPUs.
