Are you recompiling a vanilla kernel, the SuSE modified kernel, one from kernel.org......? You can use the command "make oldconfig" if you want to preserve the previous configuration in the kernel. Oldconfig will just ask you on the new features but the leave the same options alone. I'm assuming you followed all of the instructions on copying the files like the system map and your bzImage to the proper locations and rerunning lilo... after a successful recomplile... If you don't have the instructions, you can get them when you download the latest kernel from kernel.org. Also, during the install of SuSE (only if you use yast1, text mode) you will get an option to choose which kind of kernel you want to install. Example, the vanilla kernel sources or the SuSE default kernel, etc... -Chris After a fresh install of SuSE 7.3 I decided to compile a new kernel for my machine. Unfortunately, after I rebooted the machine, I got a blank screen. Any idea what might be going on? Everything was working perfectly until that time. Now I feel like I'm back to square one. Frankly I'm getting VERY frustrated. I was pretty conservative in setting up the config file, or so I thought. Thanks, Skip
