Why is it that you cant edit a file any file in /proc with an editor but you can with echo???
There are files in /proc which can be edited (more precisely, written to) both by "echo" and "vi", e.g. $ echo "hello" > /proc/1279/fd/1 $ vi /proc/1279/fd/1 # write hello and save the file produces the same result. (So the assumption in your question is wrong.) Let us know what problem you have encountered since the explanation may be problem-specific. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
