Hi all...
I've been writing some web sites. Before I put them up on the net I want to see how they look from another computer. But when I try to access my main system I get "refused by the server" etc etc.
How do I get my main system to allow my home net to access my web sites. But not open it up to the whole world?
TIA!
Do you have a firewall running? If you do its probably refusing requests, try entering the internal IP address of the web server if it has one, also do check /var/log/messages, simplest way is to tailf /var/log/messages or tailf /var/log/firewall. Then connect and see what it says.
Matt
HI Matt No I don't have a firewall running. I'm only on the 'net about 30 minutes per day (all I can afford) and I don't see it needed for that short time. I looked in both messages and firewall files. Nothing there that I could id as from my try.
Are you using your internal private IP address for the web site or are you trying to use the external public address? You should be able to use the private internal address to view your pages.
Jim
Hi Jim I don't have a external address (yet). I plan on putting my web site on a friend's server. I used my home network address like this "http://192.168.17.44/~hatridge" at this point I got the error. BTW I'm running 7.2 on both systems and using netscape to view with. Any ideas?
