I would like to set up a Samba PDC which will allow Windows XP Pro clients to log onto the domain. I understand that I required Samba 2.2.2 in order for this to work properly. Does anyone know of a binary RPM which is suitable for SuSE 7.2 which I can download ?
Blatant self-promotion: check out http://home.earthlink.net/~noodlez84/rpm_packages.html . There you will find my RPMs for Samba 2.2.X and other cool stuff.
Ihave today made a new 7.3 install, and the used your samba-2.2.2-4.i386.rpm to update Samba. First testparm kept reporting the old version, because I used samba-2.2.2-4.src.rpm, but the i386 gave the new version in testparm. Then I met the real problem. Your rpm seems to remove /etc/inet.d/smb (and /usr/sbin/rcsamba) and without inet.d/smb I cannot find a way to start samba. I made a copy of init.d/smb with the 2.2.1a package installed, but it took a couple of hours to find the problem. mvh... Morten Christensen Btw: I think, SuSE's 2.2.1a uses /etc/samba/smbpasswd and your package uses /usr/private/smbpasswd.
