(1) Ease of upgrade. You can convert any ext2 partition to ext3 without
backing up, making the file system and restoring the data.
(2) Maturity of rescue tools. Ext3 uses the same tools as ext2 which have
been in development for years.
(3) If you don't mind the speed hit, ext3 (AFAIK) is the only journaling
file system that can journal data as well as metadata.
