Hi; A few days ago I asked about partition schemes and where to put windows on a two disk dual boot system. Well, after taking your advice and a bit of experimentation I discovered that you cannot boot windows 98 2nd from a slave drive using lilo. I decided, since I was reinstalling linux to change from ext2 to reiserfs. This makes disk access a lot faster in general and I feel my system is more robust with the journaling in place should I have to do a dirty reboot. My partition scheme is as follows: hda1 /boot (ext2) (placed in front of the 1012 cylinder limit so linux can boot) hda2 windows (fat32) hda3 / (reiserfs) hda4 /var (reiserfs) (the separate var partition is to further minimise fragmentation of the filing system) hdb1 swap (placed at the front of the drive for fast access) hdb2 /home (reiserfs) (my home directory has a partition, and a drive all to itself to aid in future installations). Prior to yesterday I used boot-magic from power-quest, but since this needed windows to run on and change (I want to use windows for as little as possible - I only use it for games now:-) and lilo could do it all anyway, I now have lilo in the MBR rather than in /boot as I previously did. Thanks to thoughs who offered advice. I hope any of this info is of help to any one else (as I've asked plenty of questions previously I feel the need to to offer advise in return:-) -- ----------- Darren Harmon http://users.breathemail.net/darren.harmon1/
