1. I tried to install some *.rpm packages I downloaded to my home directory. Neither YAST1 nor YAST2 could find them! How do I install rpm packages using YAST?
In YAST (yast1) Select Package Management, then Install packages, then navigate to the directory home/loginname. Select the RPM files and follow on-screen instructions. I'd reccomend instead, however, to use the program rpm at the command line because it will warn you about dependencies. You can always choose to ignore them by hand with the --nodeps option when you want to live dangerously. :-)
