Hi All,
this seems to be a generic problem with the Maestro sound card, not
just with my laptop. Also, I forgot to mention below that I previously
got the sound card to work without problems under RedHat7.2. So the
crashes I'm describing below seem to be a SuSE "feature"...?

Hi All,
I'm running SuSE 7.3 on a Dell Inspiron 7500 with an ES1987 Maestro 2E sound card. The installation runs smoothly, with the only exception that if I try to configure the sound card (using Yast2), the system will invariably crash really badly: it just hangs, and the "caps lock" and "scroll lock" indicator lights start flashing (I haven't seen this behavior anywhere else, I wonder what it means). Also, last time I had to reboot for this reason, the automatic partition check encountered some errors that couldn't be fixed automatically. Well, that's what I mean by "crash really badly".
I'm just wondering if others had the same problem with sound configuration on an Inspiron 7500. I'd be grateful for any hints!
Klaus
